Is this the face of Catherine Bryant?
Catherine Bryant (nee Stone) and John Ingersole were married in 1877 in Bathurst, NSW.
By that time they had six children. John
Ingersole had another six children back in England, and
it appears that Catherine had four children with
her former husband John Bryant.
According to her death certificate, Catherine Bryant was born
Catherine Stone, in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire,
England on January 30, 1803. Her father
was Benjamin Stone, a storekeeper, and her mother
was Mary Pembroke.

From information yet to
be confirmed, it appears that Catherine Stone
may have been one of 6 children.
She married John Bryant, a
tailor, and they arrived in Sydney on the
November 18, 1833 on board the 340 ton barque
Edward Coulson. The arrival of the ship is
recorded in the Sydney Herald, Thursday November
21, 1833 with the passenger list including John
Bryant, tailor, and Catharine (sic) Bryant.

Under the command of
Captain Joseph Hammond, the Edward Coulson had
sailed to Australia from Liverpool via Hobart
Town on June 15th 1833, departing Hobart on
November 6th.
With her husband John
Bryant, Catherine had three daughters - Frances
Elizabeth Bryant (b 1834), Eliza Jane Bryant (b
1835), Mary Ann Bryant (b 1839) and a son George
Henry Bryant (b 1837). In 1840 she gave
birth to Maria Bryant, who is shown on
subsequent records as Maria Ingersole.
John Bryant is listed in
directories as a tailor in Bathurst in the late
1830s but disappears from view after the
christening of Mary Ann Bryant in 1839.
We have yet to
do any in depth research
into Catherine and John Bryant's children, but
an initial look at the records suggests that all
four grew up in the Bathurst area and that they
all survived into adulthood, married and had
families. Thus far we have found
descendents as far as John and Catherine
Bryant's great grandchildren.
